The drag chute system for the F-35A Lightning II fighter jet was developed for the Royal Norwegian Air Force to enable landings on short, icy runways.
The removable pod containing the drag chute is designed to minimize its impact on radar cross-section, preserving the aircraft’s stealth capability during flight.
This drag chute system is now also equipped on F-35As operated by the Royal Danish Air Force, the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and the Belgian Air Force.
