The Demonstration and Shakedown Operation (DASO) is Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) test launches conducted by the United States Navy and the Royal Navy. These tests verify the operational readiness of ballistic missile submarines (Ohio-class and Vanguard-class) and their crews before deployment. Each DASO involves the firing of an unarmed Trident II D5 missile from a submerged submarine, confirming that both the weapon system and the boat meet strict performance standards. The Trident II D5 is the most accurate and longest-range SLBM ever deployed, forming the sea-based leg of the US and UK nuclear deterrents.
