A research team from SOKENDAI and NAOJ discovered a galaxy called SXDF-NB1006-2 located 12.9 billion light years away from us.
The first step in the search for the most distant object was surveys using Suprime-Cam. Researchers developed a special filter to identify galaxies at redshifts near 7.3.
Next, spectroscopic observations by FOCUS on the Subaru Telescope and DEIMOS on Keck Telescope accurately measured the redshifts. Finally, the team found the most distant galaxy.
Armed with HSC and a next generation telescope TMT, astronomers will understand the beginning of the Universe in more detail.
