The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) has just released a new promotional video (PV).
In the previous PV produced in 2012 (and released in 2013), we introduced the overall activities of NAOJ. In contrast, the new one features the efforts of the large research projects—ALMA, the Subaru Telescope, and TMT—aiming to unlock the mysteries of the Universe such as dark matter, the evolution of the Universe, and the origin of life, which attract much attention.
Upon planning the new PV, we set up a production committee and produced the movie while continuing discussions over nearly a year. The movie-making team of the NAOJ Public Relations Office led the production and conducted most of the work, from the planning to the scriptwriting, the filming, and the editing, by themselves.
Yasuhisa Shioya, the Public Outreach Official who directed the PV, said “To accentuate the theme ‘NAOJ listening for messages from outer space,’ we decided to narrow down the material. We hope that while enjoying the PV like a music video, more people will appreciate the efforts of NAOJ’s research projects.”
If you wish to use one of NAOJ's videos for producing a video program or for screening in a museum, etc., you must first apply to NAOJ for prior permission. For cases which fall under the scope of fair use stipulated by Japanese copyright law, no prior permission is needed.
