The implementation of Brexit and Donald Trump’s Republican candidacy seems to confirm a backlash to globalization in different parts of the world. No matter the result of the US election, its political landscape will remain changed. Meanwhile, the ongoing crisis in Syria is but one example of events leading to citizens around the world focusing inward on domestic problems. At the same time, with Obama in lame-duck status and Angela Merkel’s term ending soon, Japan has an opportunity to fill the global leadership void. This panel discusses the next unthinkable in politics and how we can respond.
