2010年の年頭スピーチで、楽天の三木谷浩史・会長兼社長が「社内の公用語を英語にする」と宣言しました。本格的に英語を公用語化したのは2012年です。現在は会議や資料など、社内のやり取りは翻訳や通訳なしで全て英語で行われています。

2015年には楽天社員のTOEICスコアの平均が800点を突破し、その後も上がり続け現在は830点に達しています。多くの国・地域からの外国籍社員が働いており、その割合は全社員の2割に当たり、公用語を英語化した2010年からは20倍となっています。

社内の公用語を英語にしてから、楽天社内の様子は着実に変化しています。どのような変化をもたらしたのか、実際に働く社員たちの話を聞いてみましょう。
