過去の古生物学者たちは、獣脚類の恐竜の
鋭い牙は外に出ておらず
皮膚組織、すなわちトカゲのように唇で覆われていたと考えていました。
しかし、時が流れ
恐竜が映画を通じて再登場する過程で
肉食恐竜は、より怪獣らしく描写されはじめ
その結果、彼らの唇は消え
鋭い牙が出ている復元図が
大衆に広がり始めたのです。

ただ、映画の中のティラノサウルスの姿が
100%間違っていると言いきれないのは
獣脚類の恐竜に唇があったかどうかは
恐竜学会で古くから議論の種のひとつであり
どちらか一方に結論が出る状況ではなかったからです。
いったい彼らに唇が無かったという主張の根拠は何であり
逆に唇があったと推測する理由は何なのでしょうか?
また現在はどちらの方に意見が傾いているのでしょうか?
今日はティラノサウルスの唇についてのお話です!
