ビーバーは小さくて可愛い外見とは異なり
直径数十センチの木であれば
簡単に倒すことができる怪力の持ち主です。
さらに、かじり取ったたくさんの木の枝で
川に巨大なダムを作って
冬を越し、天敵を避けるなど
実に不思議な生態を持っています。

ところが、さらに不思議なのは
わずか1万年前まで
北アメリカ大陸には
こんな巨大なビーバーが生息していたということです。
この巨大ビーバーの正体は
カストロイデス・オハイオエンシスです。
このビーバーはどうやって暮らしていたのでしょうか。
現生のビーバーのようにダムを建設していたのでしょうか。
