人形を舟で流す伝統神事「ひな流し」が3月3日、和歌山市加太の淡嶋神社で行なわれた。同神社は人形供養で知られ、今年は約45000体のひな人形が奉納された。お祓いの後、巫女らが約400体を3艘の小舟に乗せ、女性の参拝客が海岸まで担いだ。多くの人が見守る中、人形は穏やかな春の海へ船出した。

A traditional event "Hina-nagashi" was held at the Awashima shrine at the Wakayama, Japan, on 3 march. In this festival, about 400 hina dolls were set afloat to the sea, supposedly taking the troubles or bad spirits of the girls who own them. Because of avoiding to pollute the sea, spectators brought the dolls to burn them.
