©️2019 Neba Neba
Aisekiya, meaning "the free seat in front of you", in English referred to as "DATING RESTAURANTS" are everywhere in Tokyo. Sometimes on the second floor of a shop, sometimes on the tenth floor of a high building. If you forgot your wallet and you want some free food whilst chatting in Japanese with some men, this might be a *crazy option. In the same way as you will find a sento public bath near you if you search on google map, you will find an Aisekiya pretty much anywhere.
This video was created with the Neba Neba concept in mind, that aims at exploring hidden parts of a culture and at connecting with a wide range of people in society.
Is this just a place where girls can eat for free in exchange for a chinwag with men?
Or is aysekiya where men and women likewise are looking for a partner?
Is this a sign of social pressure, suggesting that not only women are supposed to get married at some point in life but also men should be in a relationship?
Is this just a great idea to meet people, a better option than dating apps?
Or is it a faint trace of a patriarchal society, where women are objectified, a light form of power harassment?
Would dating restaurants be popular in your country?
Would you go?
