米紙ニューヨーク・タイムズ（電子版）は１７日、北朝鮮が１２日に事実上の長距離弾道ミサイルで打ち上げた「人工衛星」について、地球周回中に姿勢が定まらず回転しているとみられ、地球観測衛星として機能していない可能性が非常に大きいと報じた。観測中の天文学者らの話として伝えた。

N. Korean satellite "likely dead"

North Korea says it sent an Earth observation satellite into orbit on a rocket launched on Dec. 12, 2012, in defiance of international protests. But The New York Times in its Dec. 17 online edition quoted astronomers as saying the object launched into space "appears to be tumbling in orbit and is most likely dead."
