New U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy meets with Emperor Akihito and hands her credentials to him at the Imperial Palace in central Tokyo on Nov. 19, 2013, in a ceremony marking the official start of her work as envoy. The 55-year-old daughter of former President John F. Kennedy arrived at the palace in one of the Imperial Household Agency's horse-drawn carriages, a tradition for newly appointed ambassadors when visiting the palace to present their credentials to the emperor.
