さまざまな組織や細胞に変化する「万能細胞」を、体の細胞に酸性の溶液を加えて刺激し、作ることに理化学研究所発生・再生科学総合研究センター（神戸市）のチームがマウスを使い世界で初めて成功し、３０日付の英科学誌ネイチャーに発表した。

A team of scientists led by a young Japanese female researcher has discovered that mice cells exposed to weak acid can be reprogrammed to generate pluripotent cells, or cells that can grow into any type of body tissue. The method, named by the team "stimulus-triggered acquisition of pluripotency," or STAP, was announced in the journal Nature on Jan. 30, 2014.
