朝鮮中央通信などによると、北朝鮮で１日から、４年だった小学校の就学期間を５年に延長する学制変更が実施された。２０１２年９月に最高人民会議（国会）で決まった措置。これにより義務教育期間が１１年から１２年に延びた。
The duration of primary school education was extended to five years from four years in North Korea on April 1, 2014, Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency reported. As a result of the change made in line with a decision at the Supreme People's Assembly, or parliament, in September 2012, the duration of compulsory education was extended to 12 years from 11 years.
