文化庁は２６日、群馬県の「富岡製糸場と絹産業遺産群」の世界文化遺産登録を、国連教育科学文化機関（ユネスコ）の諮問機関が勧告したと発表した。６月１５～２５日にカタールで開かれる世界遺産委員会で正式に決まる見通し。国内１４件目の世界文化遺産となる。自然遺産も含めた世界遺産全体では国内１８件目となる。

A UNESCO advisory panel has recommended granting World Heritage status to the Tomioka Silk Mill, a historic factory building symbolizing Japan's industrialization from the 19th Century, the Agency for Cultural Affairs announced on April 26, 2014. The endorsement for the mill and related sites in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo, to be added to the list will likely be formalized at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee scheduled for June 15 to 25, 2014, in Qatar. The committee normally honors listing recommendations.
