世界中の子どもたちに大人気の「きかんしゃトーマス」の主人公トーマスそのものの蒸気機関車（ＳＬ）の運行が１２日から、静岡県島田市の大井川鉄道でスタートする。新金谷駅の出発式には、物語に登場する太っちょ英国紳士の「トップハム・ハット卿」もゲスト出演しテープカットした。

A full-size Thomas the Tank Engine runs on the Oigawa Line in the city of Shimada, Shizuoka Prefecture, in central Japan, on July 12, 2014, as Oigawa Railway Co. started operating the fantasy steam locomotive.
