東京電力は２２日、福島第１原発１号機原子炉建屋に設置していた建屋カバーについて、解体に向けた作業に着手したと発表した。解体後にがれきを撤去し、２０１７年度中に使用済み核燃料プールに保管されている３９２体の燃料取り出し開始を目指す。３０～４０年かかるとみられる廃炉に向けた具体的な作業の始まりといえる。

Tokyo Electric Power Co. began preparatory work to dismantle the No. 1 reactor building's cover at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant on Oct. 22, 2014. TEPCO plans to begin cleaning up the debris from the hydrogen explosion after removing the cover, and then to remove 392 spent fuel stored in a pool in the building by the end of March 2018. It is only the first step in a 30-40-year reactor decommissioning process.
