東京電力は３１日、福島第１原発１号機の原子炉建屋カバー解体に向け、カバー内部に散布した放射性物質の飛散防止剤の効果を確認するため、屋根部分のパネル１枚を試験的に取り外した。事故で水素爆発し、がれきが散乱する建屋上部が、カバー設置から約３年ぶりに姿をのぞかせた。

The operator of the disaster-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant on Oct. 31, 2014, tentatively removes part of the cover shrouding the No.1 reactor building installed in the wake of the 2011 disaster to keep radioactive materials from dispersing. Dismantling the cover is a first step toward removing spent fuel rods stored in a cooling pool sitting above the reactor, which suffered a meltdown in the disaster, and eventually extracting the melted fuel, Tokyo Electric Power Co said.
