Groups of Buddhist monks gathered at Mt. Koya in the western Japanese prefecture of Wakayama after traveling around the nation to strengthen their ties with believers. A series of Buddhist services started on April 2, 2015 at the mountain to mark the 1,200th anniversary since a religious leader Kukai founded a monastery there. The services go on through May 21.
